Celebrating - Danae Edmonds

Heyyyyy Ms.Edmonds!,

Today, we’re celebrating someone who is the epitome of perseverance, passion and creative genius, Danae A. Edmonds!

So, let me introduce you. Danae is a creator, writer, marketing genius, activist, mentor, friend and so much more! Somehow, she still finds time to work a full-time job and take care of her dog, Ziggy. When I told her that I wanted to celebrate her, she wanted me to emphasize that she doesn’t have it all together and she’s not perfect. That I will oblige, but I’ll also emphasize that she is the epitome of everything we stand for at ART Undone, a BEAUTIFUL masterpiece that’s still working on it. What more could you ask for?

More than any labels that appropriately fit Danae, what stands out to me the most is the label, “student”. She’s a student of life, career, and wisdom. She doesn’t just say she is going to do something but takes the time to learn, initiate and execute. On this journey of personal and professional growth, many people forget that they are a student first and an expert second. From attending conferences to interviewing people she admires, looking from the outside, I can’t help but want to get my life together when I see Danae in action.

It brings me nothing but pleasure to celebrate someone who continues to push me to be a better person every day, even if she doesn’t know it. From meeting her as a freshman in college, I’ve seen her presence and light shine onto so many people. It’s not a facade, it’s the authenticity of her truth that makes her unforgettable.

She is full of life and it’s contagious. Through everything that she does, her authenticity finds a way to take the spotlight. She is a good person. That phrase may seem light, but I put much weight on such a phrase. Never discount being a good person.

So, everyone, let’s celebrate Danae Edmonds, a creative innovator that consistently pushes the envelope! She deserves all the praise for overcoming obstacles that many won’t ever know about while still finding a way to aspire to be more and inspiring those who watch in awe.

Let’s celebrate someone who makes everything look so effortless. Let’s celebrate someone who looks to build a community grounded in growth, sisterhood and entrepreneurial spirit. Let’s celebrate someone who is just getting started and has so much more to give!

Danae, I’m honored to celebrate someone of such magnitude because you inspire me to continue to push forward with my flaws and all.

So, I hope this made you smile as much as you’ve been a ray of sunlight in so many people’s lives. Continue to live your best life and grow into the beautiful masterpiece that you are.

While you are all here, be sure to follow Danae’s new digital space, Aspiring Co., designed to aid and inspire women everywhere to be fearless, dazzling and fabulous! It’s aspiration, inspiration, and apparel for women by women.

Celebration Spotlight: You!

Celebrating You

Let me give you some loving!

You. You are a masterpiece! You are a priceless piece of art that never loses its value no matter your mistakes.

You were chosen. You have been put on earth, readily equipped with everything you need to reach your highest level of greatness. All you have to do is acknowledge it, unlock it and demand it.

You have the capabilities to not only reach your goals, but exceed them.

You are enough. You are enough right here and right now. You are the sight of perfection and nothing less.

You’ve accomplished so much thus far. You should be proud! I’m proud of you! The amazing thing is that you still have so much more in store. You know deep down within that your potential is endless; now it’s time to believe that it is obtainable.

You have power. Power to change the narrative of not only your life but the ones around you by simply deciding to live in your truth. Your purpose, your calling is one of a kind. No one can do what you can do and there’s power in your vision.

You are exceptional! Your aura exudes excellence and prosperity. People see the greatness in you, even if they never speak it.

You inspire. You inspire others to go after their dreams because you do so, unapologetically.

Your imperfections don’t break you, they create a more intriguing and enticing picture. Your imperfections make you more approachable and that’s what people love about you. You aren’t afraid to show your scars while you shoot for the stars.

You’re getting there. One step at a time, you are making progress. One step at a time, you are stepping into your glory.

You blow my mind because sometimes I don’t know if you know how amazing you are. I hope you see your value and never offer discounts.

So, today I celebrate you. I celebrate you no matter where you are in your journey because what’s in you and coming from you doesn’t go unseen. I see you. I’m cheering for you. I believe in you. So, keep moving forward and I’ll be in your corner cheering for you the entire way.

One Year Down: What I Learned During My First Year of Full-time Adulting

First Year of Full-Time Adulting

Today marks my first work-aversary! I can honestly say this monumental moment signifies more than me just growing professionally, but personally as well. So let’s just get into a few things I’ve learned this year of full-time adulting!

Adulting is a team effort

No matter if it is a work project or life in general, you’ll need support in some way, shape or fashion. I’ve learned to hone in on my essential relationships, including the one with myself. Just because you are “adulting” doesn’t mean you are doing everything alone. Instead, it means that you are taking responsibility for your actions, including some child-like mistakes you may make on the way. Emotional, mental, physical or professional support is essential in this adulting process, just make sure you don’t lean to hard on that support because it will/can stunt your growth.

Finding a solution to a problem is easier than finding someone or something to blame.

You will make mistakes. It’s almost unavoidable to think you won’t. However, the most important thing about getting this whole adulting thing down is realizing that the solution is almost always more important than focusing on the problem. If you make a mistake, find a way to resolution, not a pity party.

Saving Matters.

I can’t even begin to tell you who much money I’ve spent based on impulse. You should and need to have an emergency fund. You may have to start off super small, but it’s the efforts that matter. I’ve had many unexpected expenses come my way and if it wasn’t for pure miracles, good people and some clutch clients, I don’t know how I would’ve gotten through. You may not be able to save thousands and thousands of dollars, but trust me when your mom or dad tells you to save money for a rainy day, they are only trying to help you.

Positive energy attracts positive people

What you put out into the universe has a way of coming back to you. Trust me, I’ve learn time and time again that being a genuinely good person pays off. No matter what or who may be against you, people will see the good in you and will be attracted to that energy.

Sometimes you’ll have to call bs on your own crap

Someone will not always be there to let you know you’re slipping. Especially in the work environment, you don’t want to let yourself slip until you have to have a talk with your boss or manager. Instead, have the wisdom to see when you aren’t pulling your weight and call yourself out. There aren’t any parent teacher conferences while adulting, so get it together.

Calm Down, it’s a process.

Adulting is a process. Honestly I believe that no matter how old you are, you’re still learning how to adult. You can be 50 and still not have it figured out. The only differences between a 20 year old and 50 year old is time and amount of people that look to them for advice. That doesn’t mean they have all the answers, it just means due to age we expect them to. Sidenote: Yes, I know there are obvious other differences, but you get where I’m going J.

Make More Memories!

Every day we wake up with our dreams in mind. No matter what the dream is, it usually will take time to reach it. In the interim between the time we decide on a dream to accomplishing the dream, the world doesn’t stop. Don’t forget to make memories with the people who mean the most to you and enjoy the process. Time is too precious for you not to make every day count.

So that’s all folks… for now!

Living, dreaming, working, progressing…. It’s all work and I’m working on it.

CELEBRATION SPOTLIGHT: Mitchilene Williamson

March 29, 2017

Celebrating - Mitchilene Williamson

Today is a day that I thank God for almost everyday. It is the day an angel was born. Her name is Mitchilene Williamson. She stands about five and a half feet tall and graces the world everyday with a prayer and a smile. Some may know her as a friend, sister, aunt or spiritual advisor. If you know her because of me, you may know her as Nanny, the love of my life.

No matter if you have met her once or many times, you won’t find many like her. She finds a reason to smile in the rain. She loves. She loves unconditionally and without regard. She prays like no other. She smiles. She smiles and the entire room lights up. She makes you feel calm. She has the wisdom of a thousand men. She knows just what to say and when to say it. She never judges, she just opens her arms because she knows God has yet to let her down.

Have you ever met a good person? Just someone who you know you can trust? Someone who does the right thing just because? That’s Mitchilene Williamson. She is more than just a family woman, she is a masterpiece.

Mitchilene Williamson, aka my Nanny, is one of a kind. Her sense of humor, amazing personality, contagious charisma and beautiful smile make it hard for one not to love her. It is beyond my pleasure to celebrate someone so worthy of praise. While her selflessness never requires praise, I think it is important that we never take for granted the chance to celebrate those who influence our lives the most.

I call her the love of my life because that is exactly what she is. She is always in my corner and picks me up when I feel down. I could never pay her back for all of the sacrifices she has made for me, but of course I will always strive to.

So, happy birthday to the love of my life, Mitchilene Williamson! Smell your flowers, relish in your greatness, admire yourself and dance in your glory. You are more than any of us could ever ask for.  Never forget you are appreciated and loved.

Thank you for all you do and we appreciate you!
Everyone, say happy birthday to my nanny!

Dear ART at 24

Dear ART at 24,

Today, you turned one year older. You are officially 24! Goodness, it crazy how time flies by when you are having fun. This year was a lot of firsts for you. From getting your first real job to moving on your own, it’s like you are an adult! Crazy, right? Well, you still feel like the same person, just a little enhanced in a couple of ways. You’re getting to know yourself better and you’re spending more time on people and things that bring you joy. It’s kind of insane how much you’ve learned and how blessed you’ve been. Thank God for favor and wisdom.

You have even gotten the courage to deal with some of your demons and I can say I’m so proud of you. However… Gosh, I hate that word however. It always seems to have a negative connotation, but I’ll carry on. However, you and I both know that there is still a lot of things you need to accomplish. There are some areas that need some fine tuning and I am here to tell you to get it together and start working honey.

I know you have a lot going on, but I also know your capabilities and we have some goals to reach. So I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed, instead I want you to feel inspired. Inspired that you have so much to give the world and your journey is just starting. Be inspired knowing that every day when you wake up, you try. You try to make the world better for you, your family and people you don’t even know. Be inspired that you are a good person that still believes in good people. Be inspired that although you may sometimes fall short, you refuse to give up and continue to move forward. That means something. That means something to you. That means something to someone you may not even know is watching you.

So, don’t give up and don’t shortchange yourself. You continue to push and make strides because you were built for this. Don’t worry, you will have great memories along the way. You will meet great people in your journey. You will continue to grow and become that person you know that you are supposed to be. I just want you to know that when you look in that mirror, I got you. So, take a deep breath and do what you do best, be ART Undone.

Love,

ART at 23.

P.S. Continue to take bomb pictures and buy those cute dresses that give you all the life!

Celebration Spotlight: Nancey Price

ART Note: There were a lot of hard decisions I had to make when I started creating my blog, however picking my first feature for the ‘Celebration Spotlight’ was not one of them.

celebrating-nancey-price

Today it is my pleasure to celebrate someone who I have the privilege to call a friend, confidant and inspiration, the incomparable Nancey Price.

Graduating from Mercer University, Nancey has created her own path with style and grace. She is currently on the journey of writing her first book in conjunction with having a full-time job and attending graduate school. As if that is not enough, she is also the owner and creator of the Collage Whispherer, where she creates dynamic works of art that will move you to tears, jubilation and pure satisfaction.

Nancey also started and runs the ‘Malawi Girl Project‘, an initiative for women and adolescent girls in Zomba, Malawi. Through grassroot efforts, Nancey has been able to supply the girls and young women of Chuluchosema with feminine hygiene products to aid in their overall comfort and cleanliness as they endure through their monthly menstrual cycles.

With all of those things on her plate, Nancey still makes time to be a loving daughter, sister, friend, charitable citizen and an overall amazing person. To know her is to love her. So I would like to not only celebrate Nancey today, but to say thank you. Thank you for all you do and we appreciate you!

You can check out Nancey’s blog about her book journey here.

Check out some of Nancey’s amazing collages! You can see more and shop here.
