Day Ten – Live Your Best Life Right Now!

Day Ten - Cover

You need to start living your best life now. Like. Right. Now. You need to wake up and know that you can make the absolute best of each and every second of your life.

So, how the hell do you do that? Simple. You make the best out of every situation that comes your way. Yes, every situation. There is too much crap going on in this world to waste another day not living your best possible life you can. You don’t have time to waste.

Make the best decisions

You can’t control everything that happens in your life, so the things that you can control, optimize them to the highest level. If you’re going to work out, go as hard as you can. If you are going to study, do your absolute best. Don’t leave anything on the table when you can make the best choice and do your best.

Only accept the best

If you know that calling that one friend who is always complaining will ruin your day, don’t do it. If you are giving someone your best, don’t allow them to only give you their worst. Leave. Them. ALONE. You are trying to live your BEST life, that means spending your energy with people on the same page. No, you can’t and shouldn’t disappear from everyone, but know your limits.

Change as much as you can, as best as you can

The world is going through some really messed up stuff. How great would it be if everything could be fixed with a push of a button? However, it doesn’t work like that. Instead, there must be a lot of work put into making the world a better place. If only everyone lived their best lives and let others live theirs as well. Unfortunately, that’s too much to ask for. Instead, we (yes, we) good people must work extra hard to change the narrative. So, yes, go out and change the world for the better in the best way you know how. Do your absolute best. I simply ask you to know your limit because the world is the best when you’re at your best 😊.

Dress your best

Yes, it may seem cliché. Yes, it may seem so obvious. However, it’s a fact that when you look good you feel good. It’s not about anything other than you being able to look in your mirror before you walk out your door and being able to smile at yourself. No matter where you are going, you should feel your best before you walk out the door and take on the world.

Talk your best

Are you downing yourself? Are you constantly doubting your greatness? Learn how to talk yourself into your destiny and greatness. Living your best life is a lifestyle, not a hashtag. Make sure you shower yourself with affirmations. If you didn’t believe it before, you speaking it will help you believe it. So, talk yourself up and start with how worthy you are to live your absolute best life.

Recognize what is hindering you from living your best life

Take out the trash! We don’t have time for extra baggage in this pursuit of happiness. Disconnect from social media. Pick up a book. Dance in the mirror to Beyoncé. Turn off your phone for a day. Whatever it is, take out the trash and don’t look back.

Lastly,

Just do it. Just start today, like right now. Your life is precious and you have the magnificent task of being you. Living your best life means every night you go to sleep, you know you’ve given it your best. Nothing nor no one can take that away from you so start right now!

Day Nine – Remember Who The HELL You Are!

Day Nine - Cover

When in doubt, you have to remember who the hell you are! Going into the new year, honestly even going into tomorrow, you HAVE to know who you are and what you bring to the table. Hell, if you need to bring your own engraved chair and make room, do it! There is no time to waste doubting your greatness when you know who you are.

When you know your worth, you act different, you walk different and you talk different. So, going into this new year, if you don’t know anything else, you should know you deserve the best.

I know confidence and self-realization isn’t something that comes overnight, but there are some things that are undeniable. If you are a writer, write. If you are meant to be a doctor and you know it with everything that is within you, go for it. If you know that you are beautiful after society has tried to tear you down, show that beautiful smile and live in your greatness! If you know you are meant to inspire, inspire. Deep down inside you know who hell you are, so stop denying it. Make a way out of no way and go for it. If you know you aren’t there yet, get there.

This is your journey. This is your life. Waking up, looking in the mirror and examining the real you is one of the most important things you can do. There is a gift in all of us, find that gift and use it. You are one of a kind of extraordinary worth and you need to walk in your truth.

There is already so much in the world that we can’t control, but one thing you have control over is how you feel about yourself and how you carry yourself. That is one power that you should never surrender to anyone or anything. It’s honestly one of the greatest things we possess. So, if you don’t get anything else from ART Lessons remember that you can simultaneously be a work in progress and a masterpiece at the same time.

Remember, this next year is going to be great for you simply because of who you are and what you possess internally.

P.S. It’s also okay to re-define yourself on your own terms :-).

Planning ARTwork:

Go to the mirror, look yourself in the face and introduce yourself to the new year in a 30-60 second pitch. Tell the new year who you are, what you are bringing to the table and what you plan to accomplish. If need be, write this pitch down and revisit as much as you need to.

Of course, this is optional, but if you would like to be held accountable for starting your year off right, feel free to submit your ARTwork to artundoneblog@gmail.com. Any submissions will be completely confidential and act as an additional submission into the 10 Day l 10 ART Lessons Giveaway.

Day Eight – You Deserve Better!

Day Eight - Cover

As of 2017, daily social media usage of global internet users amounted to 135 minutes per day, up from 126 daily minutes in the previous year.* That’s over two hours a day gone with more than likely little to show for it other than more followers and likes! Unless you’re planning on being an influencer or something of that sort, you basically waste two hours a day on absolutely nothing that will further your future mentally or physically. You deserve better than this! Remember, in order to get better you have to do better.

So, here’s a challenge that I believe everyone could benefit from, including myself. Invest ONE hour a day to furthering yourself professionally, mentally, physically or emotionally. Let’s call this your Investment Hour. The most important part of this hour is it should be scheduled at the same time every day in order to make it a habit. No, weekends do not count.

So, what does this hour need to consist of? Well, honestly anything from writing a blog, watching a webinar, research your field of study, going to work out, updating your LinkedIn (Yes, it needs to be updated even if you have a job), or anything that provides you with a solid foundation to reach your goals.

If you know you aren’t a morning person, put up your phone an hour early and designate the hour before you go to bed to your Investment Hour. If you are a morning person, start your day off by checking somethings off your lists during your Investment Hour.

If you have to start off with a dedicated 30 minutes, work your way up to an hour and so on so forth. The purpose is to develop a habit that makes you focus on your growth throughout the year. This is a great building block to creating new habits that are customized to your journey. Creating a habit isn’t easy, but once it becomes natural and integrated into your life, it’s hard to stop. Good luck and get off your phone!

Remember, you deserve better than wasting time on things that don’t help you succeed.

P.S. There are some great apps that can help you stay focused and further your educational journey! My favs are Curiosity (an app with five-minute articles tailored to your preferences with video components) and Forest (an app that helps you stay focused and helps the planet by planting trees in exchange for you not touching your phone for a certain amount of time).

Planning ARTwork:

Considering your work schedule and sleeping patterns, plan out the optimal time of day for you to spend your Investment Hour. If you don’t know what to do with this hour, consider some of the goals you plan to reach and do some research. Write a list of about 5 articles, blogs, webinars or vlogs you can utilize to learn more about the topics that matter the most to you. No matter what you are doing, it’s important to be educated in your actions and decisions.

Of course, this is optional, but if you would like to be held accountable for starting your year off right, feel free to submit your ARTwork to artundoneblog@gmail.com. Any submissions will be completely confidential and act as an additional submission into the 10 Day l 10 ART Lessons Giveaway.

Day Seven – Break Up With Them!

Day Seven - Cover

Yes, you, BREAK UP WITH THEM! Break up with anyone who constantly drains you of your energy and doesn’t come with anything to offer. Yes, harsh, but basically inevitable. Taken from one of my favorite podcasts, “The Read”, the mantra of Break Up With Him crosses all genres of relationships.

One of the hardest things you can do is break up with a best friend or someone who is intertwined in your daily life, but you can’t continue to carry relationships on your back because of “history”. The truth is no one really owes you anything, so whoever gives you their time and energy, should be appreciated. However, that doesn’t mean you have to take anything that is given to you just because someone is there. You have a choice. You, more importantly, have a duty to yourself.

If you find yourself constantly dreading picking up the phone, feeling drained from conversations, always being the bigger person or downing yourself to make someone else feel comfortable, BREAK UP WITH THEM!

No, we’re not the lady or man on the stoop walking away from all our problems as if they never happened. We also aren’t the people who get out of relationships and think that we did everything perfectly. However, we are the people who have identified what and who makes us a better person and will walk confidently in our decisions moving forward.

Note: Just because you break up with someone doesn’t mean that they are completely excommunicated. This could also mean that you distance yourself away from them in certain areas of your life. For example, instead of talking to a certain friend about relationships, talk to them about everything except that topic and change your expectations of them. Also, before you break up with them, just as in a relationship, make sure you talked to them and addressed your concerns. No one can read your mind. However, once this is all done without any positive outcome…. BREAK UP WITH THEM!

Planning ARTwork:

Evaluate your current relationships and identify areas that can use some improvement. Identify what you can do better to have a better relationship with yourself and the ones around you. Act Accordingly.

Of course, this is optional, but if you would like to be held accountable for starting your year off right, feel free to submit your ARTwork to artundoneblog@gmail.com. Any submissions will be completely confidential and act as an additional submission into the 10 Day l 10 ART Lessons Giveaway.

Day Six – Did You Forget Your Presents?

Day Six - Cover

Christmas just passed, and no matter your beliefs, everyone loves gifts. As time passes, our gift requests become less of our wants and more of our needs. Of course, we would all like to drive off in a new Bentley for Christmas, but a rent check might make us best friends. Now, as we ask (or wish) for certain gifts, more than likely to get us through the next year, I have to ask… What did you get yourself?

Yes, the new Fenty Beauty or new Jordans count as a gift to yourself, but let us dig a little deep than that. Take me for example, I’m gifting myself with a peace of mind this year as well as a see-through ‘piggy bank’ to remember my travel goals. While the second gift is easier to unwrap than the first, the first goal is still attainable. How? I’ve identified and eliminated some of the unnecessary things that tend to ruffle my feathers. Example: I’m a social media junky. Yes, it is part of my job, but a lot of it is useless. Filtering out the content I see helps me to have a more enjoyable experience. Yes, we can get a lot deeper, but that’s another blog for another day and your gifts should be custom made.

So, as much thought and time we take to pick out the perfect gift for others, we should do the same for ourselves. Pick a gift that keeps on giving and that will help you throughout the next year!

Planning ARTwork:

If you haven’t already, pick a gift for yourself and make a plan on how you will use this gift throughout the next year.

If you did get yourself a gift, think of a non-material gift you can give yourself for the upcoming year.

Day Five – Don’t Stop, Get It, Get It!

Day Five - Cover

This a marathon, not a sprint. With all the organizational tools, calendar alerts, journal entries and blog posts, without consistency, the chances of real effective change next year is almost non-existent. I read a Tweet about this exact topic and it really spoke to me because it is true. Most of our problems don’t deal directly with organization, but discipline.

The motivation to not only do something once but develop a habit to continue the cycle over and over again is something that many people lack. It’s so easy to start, stop, start and stop again, that all we’re really doing is running in place, never making real progress.

If you decide to start something new or move forward with something you really want, condition yourself to keep on running the race. It takes more energy to start something over again compared to pushing through and pacing yourself. As stated in the last ART Lesson, life happens, but find ways to maneuver over feasible obstacles instead of looking for the next excuse to stop.

You’re running a marathon that takes patience, endurance, and consistency. If you have ever watched a marathon, the most well-trained runners pace themselves throughout the race to conserve energy for their final push. They are still constantly moving forward, but they are conscious that they have a long way to go.

Running towards your goals this year will be what you make it. Some of your goals will be reached faster than others and other goals will push you til the last second. Either way it goes, if you continue to push through, I can promise you that you will be better than you were a year ago.

Planning ARTwork:

Have a good weekend and celebrate that you have completed FIVE ART Lessons! See you next week!

Day Four – We’re Getting Into Risky Business

Day Four - Cover

No matter how much you plan, truth is, life still happens. You can have two or three contingency plans and things still not work out how you predicted. Anytime you try to predict the future, even if it is only an hour away, you are taking a risk. This doesn’t mean you stop planning. This doesn’t mean you stop taking risks. It just means you acknowledge the potential obstacles and move forward.

You cannot plan failure or success, but you can plan how you will react to both. Decide the risks that are worth taking and realize that even if it doesn’t work out, you are two steps ahead of anyone who never tried.

As you are prepping for the new year, your goals may scare you. They should. You weren’t meant to be as great as you are without flexing your muscles occasionally. As you move through the year, life can happen and throw you off course. However, staying true to yourself will help you find your way back.

The one thing I want you to remember moving forward into this next year is that the greatest blessing of them all is that you are here. If you reach all your goals, GREAT! If you reach none of your goals, GREAT! You know why? Because as life happens and minds change, you know what will always remain the same? Your worth.

So, jump in and make something shake if you can. Life will throw some unexpected twists and turns your way, but I know you can find a way to hop on top and ride the wave. Just continue to move forward and don’t look back.

Planning ARTwork:

What goal do you have for next year that you are afraid you won’t accomplish? Write down why you are afraid to fail and what makes you think you won’t accomplish this goal. Keep this piece of paper and use it as a reminder of why you can succeed. Prove yourself wrong.

Of course, this is optional, but if you would like to be held accountable for starting your year off right, feel free to submit your ARTwork to artundoneblog@gmail.com. Any submissions will be completely confidential and act as an additional submission into the 10 Day l 10 ART Lessons Giveaway.

Day Three – So, What You Gotta Lie For?

Day Three - Cover

You ask everyone to be honest with you, but are you honest with yourself? Think about all the lies you’ve told yourself this year. Think of all the promises you didn’t keep. Since most of the promises we make to ourselves are in the privacy of our minds, it’s a lot easier to break them than ones we keep to others. We feel a sense of accountability to others but rarely do we put that same kind of pressure on ourselves. We excuse our behavior then conveniently ‘forget it ever happened’.

Confession time: I lie to myself a lot and it’s not okay. I say I’m going to do something, then I let myself down. Since I’m the only one who knows that, it’s easier to get over. However, writing this for the world to see isn’t the easiest thing to do.

Back to the lesson, before we enter into the new year, let’s start being honest with ourselves. Take time to think about all the times you blatantly lied to yourself. Think about all the times you said you were going to do something and just conveniently didn’t follow-through. Now, imagine if that was your significant other doing all those things to you. Would you consistently take that kind of behavior? I would hope not. Instead, you would tell him or her you aren’t going to take that kind of treatment. You have to condition yourself to do that same thing with yourself. Hold yourself accountable. Treat yourself better. Love yourself more. It’s not about getting it all perfect, but trying to be the best version of yourself for the most important person of them all, you.

So, before we head into the new year, sit down and have a conversation with yourself (no, not in public). Think through ways that you can improve your relationship with yourself. Identify behaviors that you have that you don’t like and figure out ways to change. Let it all out and be brutally honest with yourself. It may be difficult, but constructive criticism will take you a long way.

At the end of the day, you trust yourself the most so don’t let yourself down.

Planning ARTwork:

Write down the top 3 lies you’ve told yourself or 3 times you’ve really let yourself down. Think of why you do this and flip these shortcomings into goals that you can have for the new year.

Of course, this is optional, but if you would like to be held accountable for starting your year off right, feel free to submit your ARTwork to artundoneblog@gmail.com. Any submissions will be completely confidential.

Day Two – Don’t Come To The Party Empty-Handed

Day Two - Cover

Ever get ready for a party, arrive at the location, get out your car, see everyone heading to the venue with items in their hands and you only have your phone and charger? You immediately feel a sense of regret, right? Well, before you head into a New Year’s Eve party or anywhere else before the New Year, make sure you aren’t walking into the year empty-handed.

Just like you don’t (or shouldn’t) forget your number 2 pencil to take a final exam, don’t come unprepared for the next chapter in your life. Make sure you have the correct tools and materials for your success.

Plan on going becoming a graphic designer this upcoming year? Have you purchased the programs you need to learn these skills? Have you signed up for a class? If not, now is the time to get a head start on your plans.

Anything you can do later, you can prep for now. Need a desk in your room to concentrate? Order it now before the new year even gets here. Start identifying what tools you need to be successful and invest in them now.

There’s nothing worse than being the person who has to leave the party to go get something they shouldn’t have forgotten in the first place. Even if you’re only gone for 30 minutes, you probably missed the highlight of the night because you came unprepared. You don’t have to be that person. You also don’t have to be that person that shows up late. If you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready. Show up on time, have the time of your life and make every minute worth it.

This upcoming year is your party, so dance if you want to, cry if you want to, but my goodness, please don’t come empty-handed.

Planning ARTwork:

  • Identify 3 material things you can take into the next year that will help you reach your goals. Write them down and then make a plan on how you can obtain these items before the new year.

Of course, this is optional, but if you would like to be held accountable for starting your year off right, feel free to submit your ARTwork to artundoneblog@gmail.com. Any submissions will be completely confidential.

Day One – You Can Do It, Put Some Backing Into It

Day One - Cover

As the new year approaches, the infamous wave of all the 2018 goals is flooding in like a tsunami. You’re either one of two people: A doubter or believer. Regardless of where your ideas stand on the new year, it’s something you can do right now that can make 2018 one to remember. It’s simple; Make sure whatever you are trying to accomplish this year has some significant, memorable purpose to you.

It’s so easy to make a goal and throw it out into the stratosphere without taking the time to think about why you want to accomplish that goal in the first place. It’s like saying you want a master’s degree because it sounds good, but you haven’t thought about why you want one other than the fact that it sounds good and all your friends are getting one. The issue with good-looking goals is that just because they sound good, doesn’t make them good for you. What makes a goal good is that fact that it has some good backing to it. Your goal must have a purpose. The “why” factor is just as essential as the “what” factor. Stop solely focusing on the what and incorporate the why when planning your future.

The more you know why you want something, the better chance you have of achieving that thing. If you don’t know why then you probably don’t know how. Ever go to the grocery store without a list? More than likely you pick up things you don’t need or, even worse, you stop mid-stroll in the bread aisle and ask yourself, “Why am I here?”. It’s all because you didn’t plan.

So, here we are, heading into 2018… You probably have your goals for the year, but can you easily explain why each of those things is a goal? What makes these goals more important this year than any other goals you’ve had in mind? Do these goals just sound good or are they actually good for you? Don’t make superficial goals without the foundation to hold them up throughout the entire year, not just the first few weeks. Remember, you can do it, put some backing into it.

Planning ARTwork:

  • Come up with 3 main goals for the year and at least 2 reasons for each goal.

*Optional ARTwork:

  • If you are having a hard time coming up with 3 goals for the year, start by answering these questions as a starter:
    • How do I want this new year to feel for me?
    • What can I do to ignite those feelings?
    • How can I support myself while attempting to achieve these goals?

Of course, this is optional, but if you would like to be held accountable for starting your year off right, feel free to submit your ARTwork to artundoneblog@gmail.com. Any submissions will be completely confidential.
